Queue Check | February 2018

Create Share Love | Queue Check February 2018

This year I not ontly want to be more intentional with my sewing and knitting projects I also want to get better at documenting what I'm making. I always love to see what others are sewing or knitting or how they plan their next wardrobe projects. So I decided to check in monthly here on the blog to keep you updated about what I'm currently making and what's coming next. This is highly inspired by Karen Templer's monthly queue check blog posts.

TAMARACK JACKET: Over a year ago I started with my quilted Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studio. I was super inspired by all those other versions out there (you have to check out the hashtag #tamarackjacket on Instagram). I'm following along the sew-along posts on grainlinestudio.com. This makes it a lot easier. I plan to continue working on the jacket again this month.

SOCKS: I knitted my first pair of socks last year in November. It’s a fun project and doesn’t take that long. There are several parts where you just have to knit and don’t think a lot. I’m currently knitting a pair of socks for a friend. I use the pattern from the book Made by Hand which is very in-depth and covers each and every step, perfect for beginners. // Link to Project Page on Ravelry

LINEN SWEATER: This month I also started a linen sweater wich I saw in my local wool shop. It’s a pattern from them, so nothing available online. What I like about knitting something from my local wool shop is that I can try on the finished piece before I start knitting. This way it’s a lot easier to know if I like it or not and if it fits. This sweater will be something for spring and summer weather so I hope to have it done in April or May. It’s a simple pattern,  but knitted in half brioche stitch. That stitch takes forever. // Link to Project Page on Ravelry

BELLOWS CARDIGAN: You might remember that I destroyed my beloved Bellows Cardigan that I finished in February 2017. It got washed a bit too hot and shrunk too much. Because I love it so much, I decided to knit it again. This time together with a friend (I will teach her how she has to knit it). My wool arrived last week and the next step is to knit a swatch.

  • Tamarack Jacket pattern by Grainline Studio in black cotton fabric. The lining is quilting cotton I had in my stash forever.
  • Sock pattern by Jenny Gordy from the book Made by Hand in Meilenweit Uni from Lana Grossa
  • Linen sweater pattern from my local wool shop in Solo Lino from Lana Grossa color 02
  • Bellows pattern by Michele Wang in O-Wool Balance color Graphite

Yearkbook 2018 | January

Create Share Love | Yearbook_Jahrbuch_January_1

Like I mentioned in this blog post I am still keeping a personal album this year but in a different format. I picked up a Yearbook (Jahrbuch) from Gretas Schwester. It has some fun illustrations which will be a great jumping off point for my stories.

When you work with page protectors and an album where you can add and remove pages it needs a lot less planning. But when you work with given pages you have to make sure that everything fits. There are possibilites to add more pages but you have to get creative.

With limited space you also have to limit the amount of photos to include. That part isn't always easy because I end up with so many photos each month. But this will help to just use those photos that tell the stories int he best possible way.

This is my title page. I added my name, the year and a text sticker (a year in review). Maybe I will add more to this page later on, but for now it stays this simple.

The first prompt was to include "my favorite photo". This is one I shared on Instagram. I'm holding a print from the Get To Work Book which sums up the main focus of my year (I share more about my One Little Word in this blog post ).

Last year I made 6x8" pages with 12 tiny photos on them. I really like those pages and will include something similar in my book this year as well.

Each month has a page where you can include tickets (here on the left). I didn't have any of those so I just covered up the text with my photo. Below I added my text on paper strips.

I love that there are some prompts you can answer each month (here it says "best moment" and "best message"). I covered the two prompts on the bottom with my photos.

On the right I included a card I received in January. The story about the card (which came with a great package of other stuff) is on the left side.

And that's it. I will share a video of my process on my Instagram accunt later today.

One Little Word® 2018 | January

Create Share Love | One Little Word 2018 WILD_Box1

New year, new word, new spreads to share with you. I really enjoy picking a word each year, invite it into my life while following the prompts from the One Little Word® class and also creating the pages for my album. Of course I will continue to share my spreads here on the blog.

This year I decided to use a box to keep all my supplies in one place. This way it's super easy to work anywhere in the house (or outside) on my album. In my box I have:

  • Main Kit from Ali Edwards
  • Stamps I collected over the years (all are related to One Little Word®)
  • WILD Story Kit™.
I love that I have now a perfect opportunity to use all those leftovers from that kit.
  • 3x8 album from Jamaica Makes.
To work with a different size this year will be super interesting.
  • "note to self" notepad from Ali Edwards.

January is always a very intense month because you have to learn a lot about your word and which direction you want to go. But I really like this first prompt. It's intense, but really important.

For my title page I used the smaller Salvaged word from Colleen Attera.

For my Intentions page I copied the words from this blog post (I added a sixth focus, but that's a private one).

This year I will keep all my notes I'm taking while watching the class videos. I added a section at the back of my album for those notes. Sometimes I write down something that won't end up in my final pages and this way I have a place for the thoughts and ideas I had.

My album is a mix of German and English. Some things can be said better in German, some better in English. I don't plan out which parts are written in German or English, it just happens naturally.
