Garden Update

Create Share Love | Garden Update

Garden season is in full swing around here. I can harvest something almost every day and I already preserved (mostly freezed) a lot for later. Back in February I shared my garden plans and a photo of my garden before I planted anything. Last month I showed you my garden journal where I take notes about all the things I'm growing. And today I show you more about how my garden changed over the past few months.

My garden bed measures 6.30m x 0.80m and I created three different beds. The main plants in the first garden bed (starting at the front) are zucchinis. I have two plants and already harvested about 6-8 zucchinis. In the second garden bed I have salad. And in the third one Swiss Chard, carrots and green beans.

It is such a pleasure to look through these photos above because I can clearly see how good everything grows. It's easy to forget that everything looked so tiny in April and May.

I am still harvesting salad from that first batch I sowed in March. And those radishes were super delicious.

I have four Swiss chard plants. Two red ones, one yellow and a white one. They grow super fast and I already froze two big batches and we had another batch for dinner once. I'm harvesting zucchinis every week now. I like them in salads or roasted with shrimps. I learned that you can easily freeze them as well.

My tomatoes are starting to turn red. And I'm harvesting lots of herbs and let them dry.

Grean beens and potatoes. I grew potatoes in two large pots and I already harvested both pots. It's super interesting to see, that you get about 50 potatoes from just 3 or 4 potatoes.

These carrots were the best I ever had! So so delicious. I highly recommend growing them in your garden because they taste so much better than the ones you buy.

Create Share Love | Herbs 2016

Because space is limited, I'm growing herbs in pots. It's not the best solution, but better than nothing. Every few weeks I harvest a bunch and let them dry. After about three weeks I cut them into small pieces and then store them in air tight glasses to use in a few months. A few of my herbs are perennial herbs and we will see if they survive the winter.

I also have three tomato plants. Because our May was really cold, I waited until June to plant them outside. They are growing really well and the tomatoes are starting to turn red. We built some sort of house around the plants to protect them from the rain. I hope there will be some sunny days in the next few weeks that all of those green tomatoes will turn red.

In a few weeks will start the autumn and winter season of my garden. I plan to grow kale, endive and nut salad during the colder days.
