For this blog post was something completely different planned and already ready to go live. I wanted to talk about an awesome minibook class I’m taking right now but this has to wait until Monday because I have some exciting news to share.
We are moving in June to a new home. We are moving into a house!
One of the goals I set myself for 2015 was to buy a house. Buying a house in Switzerland is not easy. The biggest issue is the prize. You have to have a huge amount of money in cash. And then it’s also extremely difficult to find the right one. Really good houses are gone in like 5 minutes or they don’t even show up on the internet because the owners are selling them to people they know. We started to freak out a little bit because we made ourself a huge pressure. But then we talked. And we decided it’s also okay if we don’t find a house to buy this year. It’s okay to rent a house first.
So we started looking for a house to rent. Which isn’t easy (and cheap) as well and one of the biggest problems is, that there aren’t many houses to rent.
In mid March our current landlord told us he wanted to build a flat above us. A flat in our current attic. This would not only mean, we couldn’t use our attic anymore but also that we’ll have a huge construction noise for several months. This was the moment we decided, we have to finally leave our apartment. Because we knew, there weren’t any houses out there yet to rent (in our area), we were ready to move into a new apartment.
As chance would have it exactly at that moment (or a few days later, but let’s keep it to exactly that moment) a house was advertised for rent. This was right before my Florence trip. The photos weren’t that good, but the description of the house, the prize and the size were really good. So we decided to take a look at it in real life after my vacation if it was still available.
It was and last Saturday (March 21) we visited the house. And it is perfect. It has 5 rooms; a bedroom, a living room, a room for me and my hobby, a room for my boyfriend and his hobby and another room - of course there is also a kitchen and a bathroom as well as a small second toilet, an attic and a cellar. It has a double garage and a huge terrace. It stands in the middle of nature and we love that. Right now we live next to a busy street in the centre of our city - constant noise included.
After visiting the house we wanted it so badly and yesterday evening we signed the lease contract. We are now officially living in a house from July.
Our future neighbor (the family who owns the house) has a farm and one of the kids has 20 chickens (fun story - he wanted a goat for his Birthday, but his parents didn’t want one. So he got some chickens). I always wanted to have chickens. Now I wont’ have my own but I’ll have them right next to me.
Because we are moving in June I won’t start a balcony garden this year but next to our garage there is a small garden where I plan to plant some vegetables as soon as things have settled down a little bit.
And yes, there will also be some photos to share. When we’ll get the keys in June, the first thing we’ll do (at my request) is to take some decent photos of the whole house.
We are so so excited and we can’t wait to move! Happy Weekend.
