Back in November, when I started thinking about my goals for 2016, the first thing I did was evaluating, why I wasn't that successful with my goals from 2015. I realized, that I need goals, where I can easily say YES, I hit this goal and cross it off on my list. So I decided to add numbers to every goal I set, just how Nicole did in 2015. Three goals from 2015 (learn italian, learn to cook and get fit) find it's way on my list again. But this time, I added a number which was manageable but still challenging.
Each goal I set, covers one (or more) specific area. From "improving my skills", "learning something new" to "health and fitness" and "creativity". Let's take a closer look at my goals.
TRY 20 NEW RECIPES (improving my skills, learning something new)
It's no secret that I love to cook. And I also love planning our meals. Most of the time, we make the same dishes over and over with some occassional new ones added. But this year, I want to take it a step further and push myself to try new things. Not variations of past dishes but completely new recipes. I have several cook books at home and also a Pinterest board full of great recipes. And while trying new recipes I also improve my cooking skills and even learn something new.
MAKE 5 MINIBOOKS (creativity)
I love minibooks. They are some kind of special creative project. And this year I want to focus on making more of them. With minibooks I mean books, held together with book rings like my London minibook or the minibook on the road. (Week in the Life, Day in the Life and December Daily albums are not included in this because I already know, that I will complete them.)
SEW OR KNIT 10 GARMENTS (improving my skills)
Sewing and knitting are two hobbies I really enjoy but in the past year didn't get enough attention (especially sewing). I have six boxes full of wool and fabric which I finally want to use. In my blog post about my one little word I talked about that, that I want to feel lighter. I can accomplish this by starting to use all the stuff I am hoarding. I want to live a stash less life and also want to add new and beautiful garments to my wardrobe. I really love the thought of a meaningful and handmade wardrobe. I already bought some patterns from grainlinestudio and am super excited to start sewing again.
COMPLETE 12 ITALIAN LESSONS (learning something new)
This language is one of my favorites and I really want to be able to speak it. I already understand a little bit, because my boyfriend is half Italian but the speaking part is a whole new level. A few years ago I bought a book to learn this language but never started to work with it. The book I use has exactly 12 lessons in it. This makes one lesson to complete each month. The book recommends to learn 30 minutes per day and I think this is manageable. To keep track of the 30 minutes per day I printed out the goal tracker from elisejoy.com and keep it in the book I'm working with. (Unfortunately the book I bought is not available anymore and I can't find the second one I need to complete the course. But I will start with this one and see where it leads me. When it won't work out, I go out and buy something new.)
WORKOUT 100 TIMES (health and fitness)
I started working out regularly back in June 2015 and I still love all the work out videos from Tone it Up. In the past few weeks (especially in December) I let go of this habit way too many times. I want to get back in the habit of moving my body again because it feels so good afterwards. To work out 100 times means to work out two times per week. But it's also okay, when I skip it one week but work out more in another one. As a "work out" counts 20 minutes of Tone it Up workout videos, a long 30 to 40 minutes walk, 20 minutes of running or a 2 hours hike. I primarily document my progress with the goal tracker from elisejoy.com and will cross it off on my main list after every 10 times I worked out. The goal tracker is up on our walls next to my computer.
All of my goals were chosen with my one little word "light" in mind. I want to spend less time online and more quality time offline. These goals will help me to achieve this. I want to reduce my belongings and my goal to sew and knit more will help with that. I want to feel lighter in my body and my goal to work out more will make me feel better.
May light be my guidance through the year and these numbers my motivation to stay on track.
