A dream catcher is something I wanted to do for a long time. Not exactly because they'll catch our bad dreams but more because I like how the look like. So I started to buy the supplies. Everything else besides the wooden hoop I found easily. For several months I was looking for a hoop that didn't cost a fortune. After visiting many many stores I finally found one. It is actually a bag handle for your handmade bag.
All the tools you need to create your own dream catcher: a hoop, some beads, (fake) leather strips, feathers, strong glue (to glue down the leather), twine and scissors.
Because there was a metal part on my hoop I covered it with a leather strip. You could cover the whole hoop or just parts of it.
Start with making a double knot. It doesn't mather where you make the knot.
Then wrap your twine around the hoop. You have to make sure that you do it in the exact same way as shown above to secure the twine. This is the basic "knot" you'll do the whole time.
Make your way around the hoop in the way I explained it above.
Then you start going inwards by wrapping your twine around the first round of twine you just created.
You continue your way in a spiral way and wrapping the twine around the twine until you can't do it anymore. (The middle part is a little bit messed up here, but I don't care about this).
And now you start decorating your dream catcher. I added some more twine at the bottom and threaded some beads.
I also put a few feathers into the beads. You don't have to secure the feathers with glue because they hold on their own.
I made two dream catchers and they are hanging in our bedroom now. Let them catch our bad dreams.
In the year I'm 27 I want to create 27 handmade items I've never done before. I want to experience new material and try new techniques. You can follow my progress here and read more about how this project came together here.
